North of Fort Worth, Clay County centers on Henrietta (the county seat) and towns like Petrolia and Bellevue. Settled in 1857, it has a ranching and oil background. Today it is largely rural, though Wichita Falls lies only 20 minutes west, and Fort Worth is about 75 miles southeast. Housing includes historic farmhouses, ranch houses, and newer custom homes on acreage. Existing homes usually cost $160,000–$280,000, with land values ranging $5,000–$12,000 per acre closer to Wichita Falls and lower farther out.
