In West Texas, Concho County is one of the state’s least populated. Its county seat is Paint Rock, with Eden as the largest town. Established in 1858, it was historically a ranching county with sheep, goats, and cattle. Today it remains very rural, with San Angelo about 30 miles west serving as the main city for shopping and hospitals. Housing options are limited: small frame homes in town, ranch houses, and modular homes on acreage. Prices for existing homes typically range $100,000–$180,000, with land averaging $2,500–$5,000 per acre depending on water and fencing.
