Located in West Texas, Fisher County has Roby as its seat and Rotan as its largest town. Established in 1876, it developed with cattle and farming. The county is very rural, with few population centers. Agriculture (cotton, wheat, sorghum) remains dominant, though wind energy projects have emerged. Housing is sparse: small cottages, brick ranchers, and farmhouses, with little new construction. The nearest large city is Abilene, about 55 miles southeast.
