Armstrong County lies in the Texas Panhandle, with Claude as its county seat. Founded in 1876 and named after pioneer families, it developed as a ranching hub and still holds vast open prairies and working cattle ranches. The area is extremely rural, with a population under 2,000, and retains much of its frontier character. Prominent communities are limited to Claude and a few unincorporated settlements. Housing is sparse—single-family ranch homes, modular units, and large properties with barns are most common. Proximity to Amarillo (about 30 minutes northwest) provides access to city amenities. Home prices are affordable, generally ranging from $120,000 to $220,000 for existing homes, while ranchland suitable for building or agricultural use often sells between $1,500 and $4,000 per acre, depending on water access.
