Located in East-Central Texas, Freestone County has Fairfield as its seat, with Teague, Wortham, and Streetman as other towns. Established in 1850, it developed with farming, ranching, and lignite mining. Today, it is rural with small-town centers, though I-45 brings traffic between Houston and Dallas.
